Oh yes, I understand she has plans for ski pictures and such soon. But the woman has so much booze in her blog. When Cimmy stumbled across this I couldn't help but think of her. Not like I'm suggesting she's gotten that snockered, oh no. I have no idea. Merry Christmas, Daisy!
Fay McKay's famous "The 12 Daze of Christmas":
Use this as a much desirable alternative to fruitcake! It uses candied fruits, too, but... it is NOT fruitcake, OK?
Two disclaimers:
- This is written for 1.5 and 2 lb. bread machines
- I do not think making the glaze from soynog would be a good idea. Fortunately, it is quite tasty sans glaze.
Ingredients (2 lb. amounts in parentheses)
1/2 C. (3/4 C.) canned or dairy eggnog
1/4 C. (1/2 C.) water
1 egg
2 T (3 T) butter or margarine, cut up
3 C. (4 C.) bread flour (all-purpose works fine)
2 T. (3 T.) sugar
3/4 t. (1 t.) salt
1/4 t. (1/2 t.) ground nutmeg
1 1/4 T. (1 1/2 T.) active dry yeast or bread machine yeast
1/3 C. (1/2 C.) mixed candied fruits and peels
Select loaf size and add ingredients to machine according to the manufacturer's directions for your machine. Bake on basic white bread cycle.
The eggnog glaze is made from 1 cup sifted powdered (confectioner's) sugar and about 1-2 T. of eggnog, whisked together. It should be of a "drizzling" consistency, according to the book. If Purplesque can manage this with soynog, I guess I'll be damned. I'm not sure of the other substitutions; I'm guessing the egg has to be replaced with oil and I'm assuming coconut oil (which is butter/margarine/shortening consistency at room temperature from what I've been told) or vegetable shortening would be the substitution for the butter or margarine. I'm sure I will get a reply stating what worked for a vegan adaptation.
"I love it that I'm the dream girl for geeks. That means smart men like me."
This was a project I worked on when I was a student at Whitman College and a resident at North Hall, which is Walla Walla's old community hospital. As I stated in the photo description, the construction worker in the foreground is my work and is based on a T&C Associates design made for Depeche Mode's 1983 single "Get The Balance Right" (see left). I played around with this theme in some other artwork I did, but I don't think I have many surviving examples anymore.
Do you recall any outstanding family trips or summer holidays you experienced as a child?
Okay, my first thought was "Gah, not another summer-themed question in the winter!"
But the one I'm thinking of was actually done in February, which was supposedly the slow season for our destination: Oahu, Hawaii. Part of me wishes very much that I could go there soon, especially as Cimmy was jealous the last time I related this story.
The thing that most anyone has got to realize about Oahu is that it was a vacation paradise-- about 50 years ago. But as long as you can look past the tourist traps and enjoy it for what it is, it's a nice place to go.
My grandfather is a Marine and so of course a good chunk of our visits were to the military-related stuff-- Pearl Harbor, the Punchbowl Cemetery, Diamond Head, and things like that. But my favorite places were the Polynesian Cultural Center, Hanama Bay, the North Shore, and Chinatown.
And... my muse just fled. Will have to edit this later.
Dear reader(s),
Looks like I'm going to move my blog (at least for the time being) because Six Apart has completely neglected Vox. You can read about my Chuck Taylor incident here. I'm getting a new blog, which is http://www.coryrobertsintokyo.net, which is nowhere ready yet, it'll be hosted by Go Daddy, and have the WordPress blogging tool and this WordPress theme installed. I'll keep my Vox account so I'm not deleting Vox or anything (some videos will be deleted). I'll come back to check up on your posts.
I chose to be a less violent person and not play any video games that have the "M" rating (also the DVDs that have the "R" rating/the TV shows that have the "TV-14"/"TV-MA" rating/the CDs that have the "Parental Advisory" label) since my father told me to continue reading the bible, and follow the ten (10) commandments. I know it really bad about violating social networking sites' policies and guidelines because they can ban an IP address permanently -- so I chose not to violate any more social networking sites' policies and guidelines. Since my new blog is coming, you can find me on Twitter, Flickr, Last.fm, Plurk, and my Amazon wishlist until the new blog is ready. I'm going to use Moleskine sketchbooks, Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils, Staedtler Mars plastic eraser, and the Sakura Pigma Brush pen to draw. If I want to save money for Tokyo I have to apply for a job at a fast food restaurant. I can get Photoshop, the new Nikon DSLR camera, and my own iPod in the future.
Take care - and thanks for reading.

Today, I decided to fight all the snow (a historic "blizzard," according to the news) and hit the road for Bama. It had stopped snowing, so I figured it was worth a shot. Despite the 16+ inches of snow on the ground. After a little trouble actually getting out onto the roadway from my building's driveway, I was on my way. Little did I know, the next 6 hours would be ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE.
Terrible road conditions made for a very stressful drive. Plus, something was going on with my upper back/neck, so I was in A LOT of pain with no way to lessen or ease the torture. Plus, around Harrisonburg, traffic decided that 30 mph was way to fast ... and it proceeded to stop ... entirely. ENTIRELY. As in, I put my car in Park. Every 15 min or so, we would creep forward about half a mile, before coming to a complete stop ... for another 15 min. This went on for more than an hour. Then came the ice patches. I guess I'd never really thought before about what ice patches were exactly. Patches of ice, right? Sounds relatively harmless ... was expecting perhaps something slippery. Nope. This was like a cement truck had shat all over the road. It was rough and bumpy; way worse than potholes.
Anyway, that scenario continued for while, but finally cleared up. What seemed like an eternity later, it was dark and I was in Tennessee, trying to decide where I was going to eat dinner and shack up for the night. (Talking to mom, I decided to snag a hotel room for the night, since I'd lost so much time due to the poor travel conditions.) I had passed an O'Charleys earlier in my trip, and as a result, was seriously craving some potato soup and some of their aMAZing rolls. Thanks to Maggie (my for-the-most-part-trusty GPS), I was able to determine that there as an O'Charleys off a nearby exit. So off I went in search of my soup and rolls. Well. I got a little lost. Before I knew it, I was staring up at UT's stadium. Cool. Heh, and I realized I was wearing my favorite orange Auburn sweatshirt. How appropriate. But then ... as if on cue ... Eye of the Tiger comes of the radio. I KID YOU NOT. Seriously.
So after that wonderful little moment, I turned back to Maggie to direct me to my soup and rolls again. And well, apparently, my GPS knows me better than I do. Because next thing I knew, I was turning into the Mellow Mushroom parking lot. And now, here I sit. Eating my cheese calzone and blogging about my bizarro day. (sigh) Happiness.
Next up: finding a hotel. Hoping that's a little less eventful, or at least as fortuitous as my dinner situation turned out to be.
Been a whopping 7 days since my last post...that's atypical..
It's not tuesday but i have some pros and cons to discuss. so:
pros:
-Finally got together with a friend last night - had a gooood time...need to get together more often
-T has been much better lately since the breakup
-Sarah and Kristen should be coming in town soon and I'm looking forward to finally meeting them after two years of being vox neighbors!
-My tree makes me smile
-Got a couple new Snoopy's
-Every Rankin & Bass production ever made. Genius.
-The amusing pictures in my head of dressing up Baby Girl as Santa and Mary as Mrs. Claus, having them sitting in rockers sipping hot cocoa. Baby Girl (Santa) would also be eating oatmeal because of the Wilfred Brimley resemblance. She would not be discussing diabetes, however.
-The fact that my head works like that is a pro and con in and of itself.
And, here's a little elf:
